yes,that is a very popular food in my hometown in guangxi,also in guangdong.
In every Summer Solstice day(夏至),every family will to buy some of it to eat in some places of guangxi and guangdong.
"eating dogs in Summer Solstice day and eating Sashimi in winter Solstice day(冬至鱼生夏至狗)”is a Proverbs in my hometown.
also,we eat cats,we often put it with snakes and chicken to make them be a kind of soup which is one of the most delicious food in the world.
In generally,the animals whose backs toward the sky all can be eaten(背朝天的都能吃).

I have eaten dog's meat once.it's not like you watching someone else chopping dog and you wait for having meat.sausage,I think,is the ultimate product.

The question itself is not valid. People eat dogs because they have no special feeling towards it. They are nothing different than pigs, fish, shrimp, or beef. It's as offensive to eat pig in Islamic culture as to call a dog one's deepest love.
